WHow Solving a Single Problem Evolved to Serve an Entire Industry

More than a decade ago, The University of Kansas Hospital (KU) identified problems with patient transfers. Referring facilities weren’t able to easily connect with KU physicians and communication surrounding transports was inefficient. That’s when they reached out to us.

WHow Solving a Single Problem Evolved to Serve an Entire Industry

At the time, we were serving their air medical transport needs through our parent company, Air Methods. We assessed their internal processes and developed a comprehensive patient transfer program from developing protocols, to training a team to represent the customer’s voice and coordinate transfers, to documenting the transfer event for data analytics.

KU received all the benefits of a dedicated system and team while only paying when the service was needed.

Direct Patient Logistics was born.

Once the transfer center was implemented, KU experienced more than a 20% increase in referral volume and reduced patient leakage, enabling them to expand services, reduce provider frustration, and improve internal processes.

Today, we work with more than 250 hospitals around the nation. From major health systems to community-based hospitals, we annually facilitate 300,000+ inter-facility patient transfers.

And we’re pleased to report KU has since experienced a 300% increase in transfer volume.

We can benefit your healthcare system.
